Welcome to San Russ Point on Edisto Island! As they say: location, location, location! Located on a peninsula between Sand Creek and Russell Creek, this property enjoys wonderful breezes not found inland. We have a deepwater dock, boat ramp and great fishing. The property is 40-acres and is only shared by our other house. You will love this beautiful, isolated and natural location. Anglers will enjoy some of the most productive waters on the island near our property. Bird watchers will enjoy watching birds such as bald eagles, woodstorks, woodpeckers, as well as a countless number of water birds. Anglers can catch a variety of fish right off our dock or take their boats to some of the finest fishing on Edisto Island. You will see dolphins swimming down Russell Creek and will enjoy using the sea kayak to paddle though small inlets that leads into the marsh. Adults and Kids both enjoy catching crabs of the dock - you are welcome to use our crab traps or use a string and weight. We enjoy take long walks down the dirt road and explore the natural setting of this undisturbed area. We think our property is better than a typical beach vacation because of the beauty and unique nature and beauty of the Low Country’s rich tidal creeks and marshes, as well as easy access by car to Edisto Island’s historic landmarks, State Parks and local sites. Bring your boat to enjoy fishing, water sports, and remote beaches, utilizing our boat ramp and deep-water dock. The Atlantic Ocean and Bohicket Marina are a short 20-minute boat ride away. It is 10 miles to Edisto Beach down highway 174. There is a good farmers market that is only a short drive, as well as a very good seafood store to buy shrimp if you do not want to catch them yourself. Alternatively, if you want local history, go to Pinks Vegetable stand – Pink’s husband used to work for my father during the depression. More is available at our site Edistohouse. Bring your bikes and a kayak/canoe to explore land and sea. Enjoy leisurely walks down country roads and forest paths. Alternatively, simply relax in the sun or shade with a glass of iced tea. If you have a problem, you will love our gardener and handyman that works on the property and is always a quick phone call away. San Russ Point gives you access to the best of the South Carolina Low Country. Local attractions include historic churches and plantations; Edisto Beach and State Park; seasonal treats such as the Edisto Island Serpentarium, Bingo at the Lions’ Club, strawberry and blueberry picking; the ACE Basin; Cypress Gardens; and of course, the beautiful town of Charleston. The property has been in the family since 1962. We feel it is one of the most beautiful pieces of property on Edisto Island because it is on a peninsula in a protected area. There are miles of undisturbed land surrounding the house. If you walk a mile up the dirt road, you only see a few houses. As I write this, there are Wood Storks walking near the house and I can see birds flying over the wetlands that stretch as far as the eye can see. The house is located on a part of Edisto called Little Edisto Island, which is on the end of Russell Creek road, between Russell and Sand Creek. All around our 40-acre property there are protected areas - the picture to the right is me kayaking with my Springer Spaniel Dog. We just started renting this house last year and rented it about 15 times. We love sharing our beautiful place so much we decided to let people know about it on the WEB. Make sure you visit our site link above or at Edistohouse . The house was renovated and has all hardwood floors in all rooms besides the bathrooms. What to do on Edisto Edisto Island has thousands of acres of preserved land (I understand from the Edisto Island Land Trust that half Edisto's land has a conservation easement). There is a large state park, which offers hiking on the beach or bike rides down trails that go over wooden bike bridges. We enjoy driving to the State Park to swimming in the surf and showering. We also like to drive to beach or take our motor boat to some of the small-uninhabited barrier islands that are at the mouth of the Intracoastal Waterway and then the ocean (you should have a 4' chain on your anchor if you go to the barrier islands). There are some fun restaurants on the island but for most meals, we prefer buy or catch fresh seafood and buying or picking vegetables to cook for ourselves. We especially like to eat the fresh crab that we catch off the dock and the fish we catch in the creeks. There is an excellent golf course on the Island, which will satisfy the most discriminating golfer. Charleston is a wonderful city/town with a rich heritage and great shopping. There are some fantastic restaurants (just ask for names). One great thing about our property is there are nice breezes that makes it pleasant during the hot times of the year and is ideal for sailing or windsurfing. You will want to spend a good deal of time just hanging out at the house. The property is very quite due to the fact that we are two miles from the highway down Russell Creek Road, the last mile is a dirt road with only a few houses on it. There are beautiful birds and animals such as dolphin are often seen swimming down the creeks. Some guests just like to sit on the hardwood porch and go in the hot tub on the deck. Children enjoy the zip line and bouncing on the trampoline. Early in the season there is strawberry picking close by and generally until early July there is blueberry picking. You will also want to visit a wonderful wildlife area called Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area – this area includes 4,360.5 acre of land! It is located adjacent to the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Hiking in the state park is great fun and there is good fishing as well. Last summer we chartered a shrimp boat for the children and it was a great experience for all. However, you may just want to relax and paddle the sea kayak across Russell Creek and up the little inlets. A few miles down the road, you will find a farmers stand where you can get great vegetables. A short drive from there you will find a seafood store where you can get local shrimp, crabs and fresh fish. There are also some decent restaurants such as the Old Post Office. We also like to go into Charleston and eat there at least once every other trip. It is a wonderful place and if you come, you will want to come back! If you have questions just email or call. My husband and I have lived on Edisto for 27-years (after my husband got tired of corporate America and working in New York City). I have been on the board of the historical society. My husband helps run the bingo at the Lions Club and knows everyone on the island. If we do not know something about what is happening on Edisto we know who to ask! Ann Low Guest Comment : 01/01/10 Happy New Year! What a glorious way to savor the final days of 2009 and to welcome in the New Year, the new decade. We enjoyed canoeing up and down Russell Creek and at high tide the little crooks that become navigatable all the way to the treeline. The house, the area, our hosts were so enjoyable. Our dog, Ivy, had a wonderful time, too. We hope to return again soon. D and T Lexington, VA Guest Comment: 10/19/09 Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. This trip has been amazing - even though it did rain most days. My family and I enjoyed shrimping and fishing from the dock. Loved the layout of the bedrooms and the openness of the main room with porches on all the rooms. We hopefully will be back in the spring.
